Overview | Historical info | Public transport | Map

My dad has paperwork somewhere which shows that the house and land was bought by his grandfather, Harry Cooper, in 1905. However, he knew the family had been there for some time before that, probably as tenant farmers - I think this was around 1881-3? My grandfather was born there in 1883 and the previous tenant was called Pells.

My dad refers to the house as "The Old Hop Gardens".

The house was demolished around 1955 - the former Aries Garage on the main road was later built on the site.

This old OS map from about the end of the 19th century (larger map) shows a building called "Old Hopgrounds" in what seems to be the right location.
