About Hemingstone

Baldwin le Petteur reputedly held land here for his "ridiculous serjeantcy of jumping, belching and farting before the king" - a strange and ancient form of regal entertainment he was obliged to perform every Christmas Day. Hemingstone was recorded in Domesday variously as "Hamingestuna", "Haminghelanda" and "Hamigestuna".

Stonewall farmhouse (see gallery) is understood to be the oldest building in the parish and dates from about 1450.
