Estimated population (2009) of Ellough: 20.
Local licensing authority for Ellough is East Suffolk.
Ellough was recorded in Domesday as "Elga" and appearing on John Speed's 1610 map as "Ellowe"., which reflects some of the locals' pronunciation of the name better than today's spelling. At one time the village was known as Willingham Allsaints.
During World War 2, Ellough was the location of Beccles airfield. When our photographer visited in 2010 there were many fields of hemp; apparently this was a trial which eventually failed.
We have searched records dating back to before 1840 without finding reference to a single public house in this village; it seems likely there has never been one. Please let us know if you have any information to contradict this.
