About Little Blakenham
Now a dry parish. Little Blakenham appears on John Speed's 1610 map as "Blakenham sup mont (Blakenham on hill). It was (along with Great Blakenham) recorded in Domesday as "Blacham".
Great quantities of limestone were once collected and burnt here for both agricultural and building purposes. Today, especially since the nearby refuse pit has been landscaped, the settlement now lies in a rather secluded valley, cutting it off from the advancing tide of nearby Ipswich.
