A Benedictine nunnery was founded here in 1120 by Manasses, Earl of Guisnes and Emma, his wife who endowed it with the manor of Redlingfield. Upon the dissolution the monastery was converted into a farm-house and parish church. Redlingfield was recorded in Domesday as "Radinghefelda".
