A village with a pleasant green on the edge of both Breck and Fenland, recorded in Domesday as "Wirilintona". The course of a Roman road crosses the parish along Balingham lane, which also served as a route for pilgrims enroute to Walsingham. The Royal Worlington and Newmarket golf course was once patronised by Edward VII.
Worlington Golf Links Halt was a station on the Cambridge to Mildenhall Railway. It opened in November 1922 as Mildenhall Golf Links Halt, was renamed Worlington Golf Links Halt in January 1923 and closed in June 1962. The trains didn't have scheduled stops here; if you wanted to catch one, you had to wave it down.
