About Pettaugh

Pronounced "Petta", Pettaugh is a small settlement that lies on the A1120 and clusters around a staggered crossroad junction.

Pettaugh was recorded in Domesday as "Pet(t)ehaga" and is shown on John Speed's 1610 map as "Petaugh".

The church (St Catherine) stands alongside the main road at the eastern end of this compact village.

The post mill depicted on the village sign was demolished in 1957.

We hear there may have been a brewery in the village at some time in the past, but have no details other than that it was apparently in "a house on the hill", though which hill we don't know. If you know more, please get in touch.
