The most easterly village in the country, Kessingland is a popular holiday resort, recorded in Domesday as "Kessingelanda" and appearing on John Speed's 1610 map as "Keslande". The huge caravan park marks the northern extent of the "Heritage Coast". Africa Alive has a good collection of African mammals in pleasant surroundings.
The old vicarage, once called the Nunnery, was burnt down in 1833 and near its site was an ancient house that was supposed to have formed part of a monastery.
