Now a dry parish. Local ancient history is partly based on the mining of coprolite, and the river Deben was used for its transport. Earlier part of the river known as Kings Fleet witnessed Edward III fitting out his fleet for his expedition to Flanders in 1338.
The village was recorded in Domesday as "Faltenham". Parts of the church may date from this time, though it was extensively refurbished in the late 19th century. Also see Kirton
