Greene King
Westgate Street, Bury St Edmunds IP33 1QT
tel. (01284) 763222
website http://www.greeneking.co.uk/
Founded 1799.
Greene King has developed a reputation as a voracious predator, buying up and closing such breweries as Morland, Ruddles, Rayments and Ridley's. Beers marketed under these brand names are often offered as "guest" beers in Greene King pubs with no indication that they are actually all brewed at Westgate Street.
Note that despite much point-of-sale and other marketing material implying that Greene King IPA won CAMRA's Champion Beer of Britain, this is actually untrue.
Reported by the first edition of the Good Beer Guide as offering 'First rate beers too often spoilt by pressurisation.'
