The Mauldon family had originally started brewing in Sudbury by 1795. The White Horse Brewery (with 26 pubs was subsequently bought by Greene King in the 1958 and the brewery was closed (nothing changes!)
The current business, established in 1982 by a former Watney's brewer (and descendant of the original brewing family), Peter Mauldon. It was subsequently bought by Steve and Alison Sims - both former employees of Adnams - in 2000. They relocated to a new brewery in 2005 with a 30 barrel plant that has doubled production. There is also a brewery shop. Some 200 outlets are supplied.
In 2008, the brewery bought its first pub, the Blackadder Brewery Tap (formerly the Black Horse) and in 2009 they bought a pub in Norwich.
