This website has been created to primarily share information about Suffolk pubs and also link to the 3
CAMPAIGN FOR REAL ALE (CAMRA) branches located in Suffolk [click on the links below]

IPSWICH & EAST SUFFOLK : WEST SUFFOLK : NORTH EAST SUFFOLK

Nigel Smith is the current Suffolk Area Organiser and assists the 3 branches in some of their local activities including:

Good Beer Guide [co-ordinator] : Suffolk Pub of the Year : Suffolk Club of the Year : Last Orders [free magazine]

The branches also organise various local beer festivals, campaign to promote quaility REAL ALE in local pubs
and try and support local brewers whenever they can. Many social events are also organised - contact the branches
if you would like to get more involved - NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE is required, just turn-up and have a go!

Suffolk is a large county (see map below) with about 800 public bars of which nearly 700 actually serve real ale.
Through various campaigning initiatives by the local branches as many of these pubs are visited by local CAMRA
volunteers as often as possible - however with about 400 village pubs [some quite remote from the larger towns]
we always welcome information about pub changes [or closures] or local initiatives to help protect a pub under threat.

ALSO with our Suffolk pubs website now operational we are seking to use this forum to establish a free, local,
easily accessible depositary for any information both on current trading pubs and other former [historical] pubs.
In particular we would like information on local pub characters, family links to licensees, closure dates, photos etc
The website will give credit to any information offered and no individual will profit from any information given.
Hopefully at some time in the future we may be able to use some of the information collected to produce a new
Suffolk Pubs and Beer Guide and possibly even a historical guide to Suffolk Pubs (long term goal).

If you would like to assist in any aspects of the local Campaigns work contact Nigel for more details.

CAMRA is a national organisation [see the main website] which seeks to promote cask ale,
promote cask ale brewers and protect the traditional public house.
